Got a Case of Mind Clutter?
Just tap it away!
Is your body/mind in balance? Are your emotions sabotaging your life and your health? They’re impossible questions, right? Especially given our busy schedules, it can be hard to separate the proverbial chicken from the proverbial egg—and often, we’re quick to sever the link between mind and body. So while we may attribute the cold we had last month to stress, we’ll assume that the new pain in our shoulder is from sleeping in the wrong position, or our financial fluctuations are from choosing the wrong profession. Beneath the surface, however, the connection between what we’re thinking and feeling, and what’s happening in our body (and in our life), is often more intimate than we imagine.
This connection between mind and body is a topic I’ve been exploring for the past ten years using EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Tapping. A blend of Eastern wisdom about acupressure, or “meridian points,” in our bodies, and traditional Western psychotherapy, EFT helps resolve a wide range of issues, from physical pain to deep-seated emotional and behavioral patterns. The results, in fact, almost seem too good to be true—that is, until you learn the very real science behind it.
During Tapping, you’re able to access the amygdala, an almond-shaped piece of your brain that initiates your body’s negative reaction to stress and fear, a process known as the “fight or flight” response. As Dawson Church, Ph.D., who has been researching EFT since 2002, explains, “by reducing stress, EFT helps with many problems. There’s a stress component to sports performance, business and financial pressure, and most disease. When you reduce stress in one area of your life, there’s often a beneficial effect in other areas.”
Church estimates that ten million people worldwide have used Tapping, and what I’ve witnessed literally thousands of times over the past ten years is how quickly it resolves issues people never thought to attribute to their body’s stress response. Really, so many of our day-to-day “hot button” issues, from physical pain, migraines, poor digestion, and allergies to financial challenges and relationship patterns, are affected by how we, and in turn our bodies, react to them.
Over and over again, I’ve seen the power of clearing emotional/mental clutter using Tapping, releasing unresolved emotion, even past trauma, and in the process healing chronic pain, disease, and any number of disempowering patterns in people’s lives. Just recently, thanks to Tapping, one client realized her barriers to financial success were tied to emotional patterns around getting full custody of her children. I also worked with a woman whose chronic knee pain, previously attributed to her fibromyalgia, went away completely once she tapped through her grief around her daughter’s substance abuse issues. Another woman used Tapping to work through deep-seated communication blockages in her marriage, which she then realized were preventing her from assuming her “voice” in her career.

Use Tapping on everything, I tell people, you’ll be amazed at what it can resolve!
